The meeting was called to order at 7:33 P.M. by President Chuck Horner. He welcomed new members.

SIG Announcements:

Bud Gallagher announced that the Windows 7 SIG will meet tomorrow, August 8, at 1 pm. On the computer he used for the presentation he showed the Release Copy of Windows 7, which he downloaded yesterday.

Jan Fagerholm reminded the group that the Spectacular Linux SIG will meet on the last Saturday in August, the 29th. Last month they looked at the GIMP photo editor; the presentation is available for a Main Meeting.

There will be a Hardware SIG tomorrow night. Bring hardware problems. Check the phone number in the newsletter if you need directions. We call it a Hardware SIG, but software gets fixed too. It’s usually the problem.

Other Announcements:

If you have any suggestions for a Main Meeting presentation, please contact someone on the Executive Committee, either in person or through the PCC Web site.

Presentation:

Member Bud Gallagher introduced LapWorks products and then showed the presentation CD they sent. The company president introduced himself and then discussed strategies for reducing potential of damage to both a laptop and the user. He outlined relevant details of ergonomics, resources available at the www.laptopdesk.net website, the company product line, and the benefits of reducing heat damage to notebooks.

LapWorks is offering 20% off through the end of the year. Use the code APCUG20Off.

Elsie Smith brought 3 O’Reilly books for door prizes. She would like members to go to the O’Reilly site and suggest titles or general topic areas topics for books they would like to see as door prizes.

Elsie brought extra Newsletters to be left anywhere in public. There are many people who would like to take advantage of PCC, if they only knew we exist. Members are encouraged to distribute them to libraries, doctors’ offices, etc.

The meeting was adjourned at 8:57 P.M.

The next meeting will take place at the same location on September 11, 2009. Note the change of date because of the Labor Day Holiday.

Respectfully submitted,

Bayle Emlein, Secretary
