SIG Announcements:

The Windows 7 SIG will meet on February 13 at 1 pm, not 9:30 am. Bud is planning to look at the God mode.

Jan Fagerholm reminded the group that the Spectacular Linux SIG will meet on the 4th Saturday of the month. This month that will be the 27th. He plans to look at the Google Chrome operating system, not to be confused with  Google Chrome browswer.

The Hardware SIG meets tomorrow (the Saturday after the Main Meeting) at the Smiths’ at 8 pm.

Other Announcements:

The Clubhouse is having their monthly cookout tomorrow.

Presentations: Clancy Priest, the Hayward Technology director presented AccessHayward. He is responsible for all city technology, from squad-car laptops to the Hayward City site. The Hayward City Manager and Assistant City Manager both “get” technlology, making it easier to implement a web-based public service system. Using a combination of 2 companies, Govoutreach and Teleworks. Govoutreach hosts the service. They have 4 servers, not all in the Bay Area. The system can be used by phone. Dial 510-Hayward.

Clancy covered efforts to make access to the city and city departments easier to use. He described how requests and complaints are handled. He encouraged everyone to provide as much input as possible. Citizens are the eyes and ears that help the city know what services are needed and where. The system is more than cost-effective because it makes provision of services more efficient.

After the break, Diane George presented a few features of the new PCC site. The new site is data driven. That makes updating easier. There is a function for changing the size of the display font. The Search function makes it easier to find information about something specific. Diane would like SIG leaders to take over updating their SIG pages. Right now, only the Mobile Computing SIG leader updates his own page regularly.

PCC members need to register so that they can have access to special offers. Articles too long for the Newsletter can be uploaded also. Registration is easy. Diane showed some of the back end of Joomla, the open-source application she used to design the new web site. To learn more, go to http://www.joomla.org.

Q&A session: Jan Fagerholm and Bud Gallagher discussed how to search for hidden files. CC Cleaner will clear cookies easily.

Do I need separate drivers to attach a printer in both Windows 7 and XP ? Answer: yes.
